Bozeman - Gateway to Yellowstone

The home of Montana State University, Bozeman is one of the most pleasant towns in the West as well as the gateway to the northwest part of Yellowstone National Park. Bozeman is the starting point of the Gallatin River Drive -- the exceptionally scenic road which leads to West Yellowstone and Yellowstone.

The city is situated at just over 4,700 feet and is surrounded by mountain ranges: The Bridger Range to the east, the Big Belt Mountains to the north, the Tobacco Roots to the west and the Gallatin Range to the south. The city sits at the northern end of the Gallatin River Canyon, the scene of some of the best fishing in the state.
What to See & Do

Montana State University is known for its agricultural programs and research. Its main attraction to visitors is the Museum of the Rockies which was expanded in 1989 and has exhibits featuring fossils, Western art and Native artifacts. It also contains a dinosaur exhibit and a new planetarium. Summer in Bozeman offers a walking tour of the historic districts in the downtown area and the adjacent South Willson district of historic homes -- 48 houses including large mansions and little Victorian homes dating back as far as 1883. This area is particularly beautiful in the winter, when the Christmas Stroll is held.
Bozeman Hot Springs is southeast of town, with a campground and RV park nearby. Big Sky, the ski and summer resort, is farther south along our scenic drive on the way to Yellowstone. During summer months, the Big Sky gondola takes visitors to the top of the ski hill with fine views of the Gallatin Mountains. Gallatin River rafting is also available at Big Sky village. The are golf courses in Bozeman and at Big Sky.
There is skiing, as well, at Bridger Bowl, just northwest of Bozeman. The base lodge has a bar and grill and Cross-Country skiing with 30 kilometers of trails available at the Bohart Ranch, next to Bridger Bowl.
In summer, Bozeman is the scene of Shakespeare In The Parks and evening concerts by the municipal concert band and the Bozeman Symphony. Hyalite Canyon is the site of a scenic park, accessed via South 19th Avenue, with nature trails, waterfalls, fishing, picnicking and a campground. The Gallatin Gateway Inn, in the village south of town on the way to Yellowstone, is a mission-style historic lodge built for railway travelers to the park by the Chicago, Milwaukee & St. Paul Railroad.
The fishing just south of Bozeman, in the Gallatin, Yellowstone and Madison rivers is world renowned. Missouri Headwaters State Park is at the confluence of the Madison and Gallatin rivers, offering fine fishing, picnicking and trails.

The Gallatin River Lodge is located at 9105 Thorpe Road, a few minutes drive from downtown Bozeman. It's close to the three major fishing rivers, the Gallatin, Yellowstone, and Madison. The inn serves breakfast to guests. The six suites feature fireplaces, whirlpool tubs, wi-fi, and mountain views.
The Gallatin River Lodge & Grill is a historic hotel with a noted dining room and year-round accommodations. It's located in the small community of Gallatin Gateway, a few minutes' drive from Bozeman (on the road to Yellowstone).. Roms feature king or queen beds. The dining room is one of the best in the region and features steaks and chops, seafood dishes and game.
Fox Hollow Bed & Breakfast is at 545 Mary Road, 5.5 miles from downtown Bozeman. With five rooms in a beautiful country setting, the B&B servbes a full gourmet breakfast.
