Alaska's George Parks Highway

358 miles (576 km) -- 6 hours, 30 minutes

Fairbanks -- Airport Way & Parks Highway.

Viewpoint (Mile 39.2, km 63.1) The Tenana River is seen on both sides of the road.

Nenana (Mile 53.5, km 86.1) Village with river port facilities for tugs & barges. Visitor Center is an old tugboat, the Taku Chief. Gas, cafe, stores, bank, motel, picnic area at Taku Chief.

Turnoff --Anderson (Mile 74.5, km 119.9)
Village, 6 miles, 9.6 km from the highway. Nearby Clear is a military installation.

Highway Services (Mile 82, km 132)
Campground, hookups, store.

Rest Area (Mile 89, km 143.2) Picnic park on June Creek.

Panquinque Creek Bridge (Mile 105.5, km 169.8) Fishing for grayling.

Healy (Mile 109.3, km 175.9)
Village with gas, store, cafes, motel, private campground.

Services (Mile 119.1, km 191.7) This is the beginning of a string of motels, lodges, restaurants and campgrounds north & south of the entrance to Denali National Park.

Denali Park Road (Mile 120.7, km 194.2) Denali National Park entrance. See page xxx.

Turnout (Mile 141.7, km 228) for view of Panorama Mountain.

Services (M 147.6, km 237.5) Gas, campground, hookups.

Junction -- Denali Highway (#8) (Mile 148.1, km 238.3)

Turn west for Cantwell: Gas, lodging, store, cafe and bar, private camp ground, hookups.

Broad Pass Summit (Mile 156.7, km 252.2) Divide &emdash; Cook Inlet & Yukon River watersheds.

Rest Area (Mile 172.4, km 277.4) Picnic tables, toilets, wa ter.

Rest Area (Mile 184, km 296.1) Tables at bridge. A short trail offers views of Hurricane Gulch.

Turnoff (Mile 194.2, km 312.5) To Coal Creek parking area. Trail & fishing for grayling, rainbow trout and salmon.

Services (Mile 201, km 324.8) Gas, cafe, lodging. This is the last gas for 32 miles (51.9 km).

Picnic Area (Mile 210.8, km 339.2) Memorial on loop road.

Byers Lake Campground (Mile 211, km 339.6) Picnic park, trail.

Troublesome Creek (Mile 220.3, km 354.5) Trail and fishing for grayling, rainbow trout & salmon.

Turnout (Mile 222.8, km 356.6) Display and views of Mt. McKinley.

Turnout (Mile 223.3, km 359.4) with piped spring water.

Chulitna River Bridge (Mile 225.2, km 362.4) Fishing for rainbow trout & grayling.

Rest Area (Mile 236.5, km 380.6) Picnic tables.

Trapper Creek (Mile 243.5, km 391.2) Village with gas, cafe, store, lodging, RV hookups.

Services (Mile 253.7, km 408.3) Gas, cafe, motel.

Junction -- Talkeetna Spur Road (Mile 259.3, km 417.3)
Turn east for the village of Talkeetna (14.5 miles, 23.3 km). Gas, motels, stores, cafes, camping, hookups. Infocenter at museum.

Montana Creek Campground (Mile 261.5, km 420.8) Trails, no tables. Private campground on north side of creek.

Services (Mile 267.2, km 430) Private campground, hookups, store.

RV Park & Campground (Mile 286.5, km 461.1)

Junction -- Hatcher Pass Road (Mile 286.8, km 461.5)
Willow Creek state campground & picnic area (1.2 miles, 1.9 km). Independence Mine Historical State Park is 31.8 miles (51.2 km).

Willow (Mile 287, km 465.1) Village with gas, store, cafe.

Turnoff (Mile 290.8, km 468)
To Nancy Lake Rec. Area. Trails, picnic tables, canoe launch.

Houston (Mile 300.5, km 483.6)
Village with gas, cafe, store, lodging, camping.

Wasilla (Mile 315.8, km 508.2)
Town located between Lucille & Wasilla Lakes in the Susitna Valley. Visitor Center at museum on Main Street, just off the highway.

Junction -- Glenn Highway (Mile 323, km 519.8)
This is Alaska Route 1 to Anchorage. Downtown Anchorage: 35 miles (56.3 km).

Anchorage (Mile 358, km 576.1)
The Glenn Highway ends at Medfra Street.
