South Lake Tahoe - Heavenly Gondola

Major developments are continuing to take shape in South Lake Tahoe. As the city tears down old motels and retail esablishments from the early 1900s and replaces them with new lodges, deluxe hotels and stores, the area ski hills are updating visitors' opportunities to enjoy the Lake Tahoe scenery, and provide a better skiing experience from the heart of the resort city.

The Park Place development already has changed the face of the South Lake Tahoe, just east of the Stateline casino area. One of the major features of the recent ski-from-the-city theme is the Heavenly Gondola.

The gondola lift, with eight passengers to a car, takes visitors from the casino area of South Lake Tahoe/Stateline to the 9,100 foot level of Heavenly. The ride to the top takes 11 minutes. A hotel, looking like an old fashioned lakeside lodge and operated by Marriott, is located next to the gondola station. The gondola operates during winter and summer seasons.
