There are lots of things to do in Las Vegas other than on the Strip and Fremont Street. Mont Charlestom, to the north, offers outdoor adventure year-round. Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area is another place to enjoy the great outdoors, with hiking trails, rock climbing and other adventures. Go here for more information.
You'll enjoy Lake Mead and a tour of the Hoover Dam. and to the south is the Colorado River and several recreation areas. In greater las Vegas, the communities provide recreational activities and other things to do including shopping at farmers markets, skating in the wintertime, and shopping on a grand scale.
St. Patrick's Day Festivities
Las Vegas makes this Irish celebration a memorable event all over town and in henderson as well. Events (dinners) are being held to virtually every casino-hotel in town, as well as community and senior centers, and of course the Irish pubs which are dotted around the area. Here are a few that caught our eye:
St. Patrick's Day Festivities at Fremont Street Experience
The Downtown Las Vegas street venue features a pub crawl and free entertainment throughout the weekend with DJ Kay Jay, The Joshua Tree (U2 tribute band), Tempest and Carl Ferris.

This event, sponsored by the Southern Nevada Sons opf Erin will being large crowds to the Events PLaza. The parade runs from 10 a.m. starting at Ocean Road, leads down Water Street and then on Victory Road.You'll see floats, dignataries, and marching bands. Ongoing events, including a carnival and midway, a car show, food booths and various vendor, will be at the Henderson Events Plaza, 200 S. Water Street, March 12-15. Carnival hoursl are 5-10 p.m. March 11 and 12; noon to 10 p.m. March 13; and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. March 14. The car show runs from noon to 5 p.m. March 13. Admission to the festival and live entertainment is free. Tickets are sold for the carnival rides.
The Buffet at Aria on St. Patrick's Day

This brand new hotel in the City Center project is only one of the dozens of St Patrick's Day dinners at hotel dining rooms, buffets, pubs and restaurants in the area. Aria features a special menu of corned beef and cabbage, Guinness braised short ribs, Shepherd's pie, and Irish lamb stew along with The Buffet's usual selection of high-grade cuisine. The room will be open on St. Patrick's Day for breakfast, 7 a.m.-11 a.m.; lunch, 11 a.m.-4 p.m.; and dinner, 4 p.m.-10 p.m.

First Friday
First Friday is a monthly cultural celebration and street fair in the downtown Las Vegas arts district, held on the first friday of each month from 6 to 10 p.m. Live performances are staged at Colorado Avenue and Casino Center Boulevard. Various activities are held at galleries on Main Street, at places including the Arts Factory, Holsum Lofts,and Commerce Street Studios. Free trolley transportation is available from the Clark Cpounty Government Center at 500 South Grand Central Parkway, and at the El Cortez, 600 Fremont Street. For more on the event, call 384-0092.
